The Church at Junction 10 is an Assemblies of God church which meets at Grace Academy Darlaston. While you will meet lots of people at our Sunday gatherings, it’s through joining a Journey Group that people really get to know one another and share life, supporting one another as we grow and develop to become more like Jesus.
What is a Journey Group?
A Journey Group is a term we use to describe the various ways that people who belong to our church gather together outside of the Sunday services; House Groups, Small Groups, Missional Communities etc.
Journey Groups - What to expect!
House Groups
Most House groups have around 6 to 10 people meeting in homes across Walsall on a Fortnightly basis. During a typical evening, you might worship together, pray for each other and have a time of sharing and teaching. It’s a place where you can form friendships, share both the good times and the bad, and work out what it means to follow Jesus today. Sometimes called “doing life together” – the idea is that the Christian walk has never been a journey that is meant to be solitary or just a ‘Sunday Service’ thing, but that forming close bonds of trust and friendship with other Christians and journeying together provides the basis for discipleship.
Small Groups
Similar to House Groups, small groups meet at venues across the Midlands but not necessarily in people’s homes – it might be at a café, community centre, workplace or school/college/university.
Missional Communities
A Missional Community (MCs) is a group of people that gather around a common theme or vision, seeking to reach a particular neighbourhood or network of relationships with the good news of Jesus. We first began to embrace Missional communities back in 2010 as there was a real desire for us to reach out to the communities around us. MCs can have anywhere from 6 to 40 people in them. Typically MCs will split their time between meeting as house groups to gather together and spend time seeking God, praying and sharing with one another (something we call huddling). The rest of their time will be spent out in the community with the aim of blessing the communities and reaching the people around them with the good news of Jesus. As you will see below we have a real variety in the different types of missional community you are able to get involved in.
Living Water Café
Living Water café in Willenhall was set up in 2014 (although its roots and inspiration go much further back to an earlier ‘satellite’ project several decades ago). The café was born out of a vision God gave to a group of people who wanted to reach out into the community of Willenhall having met and prayed for many years, premises were secured and the café opened in 2014. The café, run solely by volunteers, provides a welcoming venue for shoppers to come and grab a coffee and a bite to eat as well as experience a safe place where the love of God is obvious. The café is now well known and highly regarded in the town centre and due to its popularity is always looking for more people to get involved. Please contact Mandy and Walley Lehmann through the church office for more information on how you might get involved.
Father’s Heart
Bescot Market - This MC has been going to Bescot Market every fortnight since we began to pilot MCs. The team have a market stall that is simply there for prayer and showing the love of God to shoppers and stallholders. They pray with those who need healing or encouragement and they share the gospel – giving out booklets and other resources. The group also regularly has prayer walks and meets for discipleship. They have seen divine healing and salvation and again, God’s favour and touch have been with them. Please contact Chidi Osuji chiosuji@hotmail.com or journeygroups@junction10.com for more details.
Junction 10 Ramblers
Is a friendly walking group for adults who are keen to get outdoors, meet new people and develop new friendships. We organise monthly mid-week and Saturday walks, plus bank holiday rambles and evening strolls between June and August. Walks tend to be between 5 to 8 miles long and usually include a lunch stop at a pub or a tea shop or you can “bring your own” picnic. We normally meet at the start of the walk but car sharing/lifts can be arranged if required. Please be aware that walks may be cancelled due to bad weather. We recommend that walking boots/trainers be worn on all our walks. Dogs are welcome. Please contact Luan Gray Luan_gray@yahoo.co.uk or Tracey Freeman Locum58@gmail.com for more details.
International Prayer
Worldwide Missions is a Facebook group which helps to keep Church members up to date and aware of Christian mission both nationally and internationally. The Facebook page is regularly updated so that needs can be identified, so we can send out encouragement and so we can join together to pray for our brothers and sisters in Christ Anybody wishing for updates is welcome to join the group. We may not be able to serve on the mission field, however, we can be aware of what is happening globally and pray intelligently into these missions. For more information please contact Tracey Freeman Locum58@gmail.com
Connect Out
We are a group that meets up on a regular basis. Our aim is to reach out to friends and family and share God’s love through organised events and social activities. We believe God wants his church to have strong healthy relationships so through our different events we spend time with one another developing our relationships and building community with Jesus at the centre. We enjoy organising a wide range of activities including, Balti nights, bank holiday walks and bowling nights. Connect Out is an ideal missional community if you are new to Junction 10 or if you would like to invite friends or family members into the church. For more information please contact Bob and Becky on Robertjones68@live.co.uk
PITS STOP: (People involved in trafficking and slavery - stop!)
Is a group of people who share a passion for seeing the end of modern slavery and trafficking, through supporting organisations, working locally, regionally, nationally and internationally. Pits Stop also aims to raise awareness within our local communities, providing information on the signs to look for and ways of reporting/addressing concerns, as well as sharing the compassionate heart of God. At the centre of this missional community is the verse from Isaiah 58, ‘Let the oppressed go free, and remove the chains that bind people. The group meets from 7.30-9.00 pm on the last Thursday of every month at Living Water Coffee Shop, 5 Stafford St, Willenhall, WV13 1TQ.
